International Gothic is a general term indicating a style that spread across northern Italy and Europe around the turn of the fourteenth Century and the first half of the fifteenth Century.

Romanesque versus Gothic Architechture

Building the Cathedral tested the skills and ingenuity of the cathedral builders to the limit.
................ In fact the style they built is called Romanesque.
It's based on the round arch. ........ It was simple but limited.

Abbot Suger and his unnamed master mason had glimpsed the possibilities of the pointed
arch: it's both stronger and more flexible than a round one........

Giotto in Padua: Colours and Souls

Still only in his early thirties, Giotto returned home to Florence and set up his own workshop.

He continued to experiment using the latest techniques in fresco paintings.

......

Giotto's big opportunity to use this technique came in 1303 when he was summoned to Padua to decorate the small family chapel of a wealthy business man.

The Wilton Diptych - National Gallery - London

One of the most famous example of International Gothic style is the Wilton Diptych now in the National Gallery in London.
